Research Frontiers President and CEO Joseph Harary to Present the Real World Benefits of SPD-SmartGlass at Next Week’s CTI Automotive Glazing Europe Conference in Spain

San Sebastian, Spain, Nov. 07, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The world’s automakers and their glass suppliers will meet next week in San Sebastian, Spain for the 12th International CTI Conference – Automotive Glazing Europe. This is the largest conference on automotive glazing in Europe. On November 15, Research Frontiers CEO Joseph Harary will be a featured speaker, giving a presentation on “Improving the passenger experience and improving performance in electric, autonomous and other vehicles using dynamic glass technology.”

Research Frontiers SPD-SmartGlass is the dynamic glass technology that can be found on numerous car models from Daimler. The MAGIC SKY CONTROL feature, which is now in use on tens of thousands of Mercedes-Benz cars (including their flagship S-Class), uses SPD-SmartGlass technology to turn the roof glass transparent by electrically aligning tiny nanoparticles in a thin film within the glass. With the touch of a button, drivers and passengers can instantly change the tint of their roof to help keep out harsh sunlight and heat, and create an open-air feeling even when the sunroof is closed.

Mr. Harary’s address will focus on topics including how SPD-SmartGlass has been used in the automotive industry to:

  • Improve the passenger experience in vehicles through the intelligent use of dynamic glass.

  • Increase the driving range of electric vehicles by up to 5.5%.

  • Reduce CO2 emissions by up to 4 grams/kilometer in internal combustion engine vehicles.

  • Increase the use of glass on vehicles without bringing inside the vehicle unwanted heat (by up to a 18ºF/10ºC reduction), light, glare, harmful UV radiation and noise.

  • Improve the comfort, security and safety of occupants.

  • Benefit autonomously driven cars and their occupants.
