Petco Foundation and Jasper Contractors Invest In Lifesaving Work of Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando Following Irma

Grants Totaling $100,000 Will Extend Efforts To Save More Animal Lives In Florida And Aid In Irma Recovery

Orlando, Fla., Sept. 20, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, one of the nation’s leading animal welfare agencies, today announced it has been awarded a $50,000 challenge grant from the Petco Foundation to support its Hurricane Irma disaster relief and lifesaving efforts. Jasper Contractors, upon hearing this, made a matching donation of $50,000 to the animal welfare agency.

 

Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando is a nonprofit organization that shelters over 8,000 homeless pets each year, provides outreach services and programs to pet owners in need and cares for an additional 45,000 pets through its veterinary clinics. The organization primarily serves Orange, Seminole and Osceola Counties but partners with other animal welfare agencies throughout the State of Florida to ensure the welfare of cats and dogs.

 

The Petco Foundation and Jasper Contractors investment will aid Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando’s Hurricane Irma recovery efforts. This includes the transfer in of dogs and cats from shelters around the State of Florida that were impacted by the storm and minor damages to the buildings and grounds caused by the hurricane. This grant will also assist Pet Alliance with the ongoing needs and sheltering of the 431 animals currently in their care and those that they will continue to receive over the next days and months as part of its ongoing work to provide shelter and compassionate care for homeless pets.

Bardy continued, “Pet Alliance has transferred in 50 pets so far from Jacksonville and Collier County, and is currently working on setting up additional transfers from Collier County. We are also sending a shipment of pet food and dog beds to Key West, and coordinated the distribution of 43,000 pounds of donated dog food to local pet rescues and residents. We would not be able to do this important work without the support of organizations like the PetCo Foundation and Jasper Contractors.”

 

Following this summer’s disastrous storms, the Petco Foundation committed more than $3.4 million to support animal welfare organizations. in addition to the gift to Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, Jasper Contractors also donated $25,000 to the Houston Humane Society to assist in Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts
