'Not Credible': Bomb Threats Made Around The Country, Including Massachusetts

BOSTON (CBS) – Authorities in Massachusetts are tracking multiple emailed bomb threats that the FBI says were also sent throughout the country Thursday afternoon.

Massachusetts State Police said they are investigating threats that were sent to "numerous" businesses. The agency said there are no indications that any explosives are involved at this point.

Boston police told WBZ-TV multiple businesses in the area received emailed bomb threats. They do not believe there is any threat to the public.

The Boston Fire Department said it was notified about bomb threats at the Boston Opera House, the Keystone building, the Westin Boston Waterfront, and the Courtyard Boston Copley Square.

Police in Braintree, Burlington, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Concord, Dartmouth, Framingham, Hingham, Pepperell and Worcester also reported bomb threats to businesses in towns. The Steamship Authority said offices in Masphee and Nantucket received bomb threats and demands for money, but both locations have been deemed safe.

Cities around the United States receiving threats include New York, Chicago and San Francisco. CBS News reports that the threats demand a Bitcoin payment and appear to be either extortion or just attempts to cause disruption.

Any business that receives a bomb threat is urged to contact police.
