I would like to wish all Georgian friends a happy Europe Day. We believe that Georgia is part of Europe. Georgia should join the European Union, - said the German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer.
According to him, everyone knows what is needed for membership.
"Europe is friendship and solidarity and we want to celebrate this today. Everyone knows what needs to be done for membership and I hope that in the future it will be done and we will be together in one union," - said the Ambassador.
Asked why Georgia was not invited to the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Warsaw, which was held yesterday in Warsaw and to which other EU candidate countries were invited, the Ambassador replied:
"Because in June last year the EU decided to suspend high-level contacts with the Georgian government until it resolves the current crisis."
He expressed hope that Georgia will return to the right path.
“I hope that Georgia, as a country, with all its citizens, will return to the right path. We hope, but it depends on Georgia. And what is Georgia? Georgia is the Georgian people, and when joining the European Union, not only the government becomes a member, not only the parliament becomes a member, not only the business sector, but everyone. So, great national efforts are needed to join. We have offered you candidacy, the best thing we could do,” the ambassador noted.
