In the early hours on Thursday, sky watchers in parts of Lithuania were treated to a rare spectacle – the Northern Lights. The vivid auroras appeared as a result of powerful solar eruptions that occurred over the weekend, sending streams of charged particles hurtling towards Earth.
These celestial displays are triggered when charged particles from the Sun collide with the upper layers of Earth’s atmosphere at speeds of up to 72 million kilometres per hour.
