A woman accused of duping a South Jersey family into believing she was dying of cancer has issued a lengthy apology on Facebook.

Kiley White, 26, of Galloway Township, was arrested by Egg Harbor Township Police on July 12 after she allegedly convinced Linda and Steve Evans that she was grappling with a terminal illness.

She told the couple she had nowhere else to go and was allowed to spend about five weeks living in their home.

White, who was charged with theft by deception and harassment, took to Facebook to say she was sorry.

She wrote about how her lies spiraled out of control.

"Words could never express just how many tears I have shed over knowing I contributed to the heartache of another human being. That was never my intent," she wrote.

White said her father survived Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma twice.

"I saw firsthand the Hell that cancer was and is. It killed me knowing I was pretending to fight something only real-life superheroes battle."

She said she believes her actions stem from "past traumas, relationships and abuse."

White also said she is taking responsibility for her actions.

"I know that I have done wrong. A whole lot of it," she wrote. "I also am aware of the fact that I need help. A whole lot of it."

Relatives of the Evans family grew suspicious of White and contacted police. She is suspected of pulling similar scams in Pennsylvania and elsewhere in New Jersey, police said.

"On each occasion, she has preyed on the sympathy and compassion of others, receiving services and goods from those victims whom she scammed," Egg Harbor Township Police reported in a statement on the case.

White said she has lost her job and been kicked out of her apartment as a result of the publicity about the Egg Harbor case.
