Stock Market Opens Higher on Friday

General Electric down ahead of results

The U.S. stock market was in the green in premarket trading Friday, ending the week higher.

Shares of General Electric Co. (GE, Financial), however, were down on the back of the company reporting financial results for its third quarter. EPS of 29 cents missed expectations by 20 cents, but revenue of $33.47 billion beat estimates by $910 million and gained 14.3% year over year.

Global markets

The main European stock markets traded mostly higher. The U.K.'s FTSE 100 gained 0.19 points, France's CAC 40 inched up 0.07% and Spain's IBEX 35 climbed 0.15%. Only Germany's DAX was lower, falling 0.04%

In Asia, Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 0.04%, China's Shanghai Composite was up 0.25% and Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 1.17%. India’s BSE Sensex closed down 0.67%.
