Election 2018: Pequot Lakes will have new mayor; area city, school board races listed

A new mayor will lead Pequot Lakes starting in 2019.

After four terms and eight years as mayor, with a two-year hiatus from 2015-16, Mayor Nancy Adams decided not to seek re-election. The Pequot Lakes City Council also will have at least one new member.

There also will be races on the Nov. 6 general election ballot for Pequot Lakes School Board; Pine River-Backus School Board; Nisswa, Crosslake, Fifty Lakes and Hackensack city councils; Lake Shore mayor with the last-day filing by a former mayor; and Manhattan Beach mayor and city council.

Following is a list of candidates who filed by the 5 p.m. Aug. 14 deadline for area city council, school board and township seats, according to area city and school board clerks and the Minnesota Secretary of State website. Visit www.pineandlakes.com for any updates.

Pequot Lakes

Mayor: James Tayloe and Cathy Malecha. Incumbent Nancy Adams did not file. Pete Clement had filed but withdrew from the race Wednesday, Aug. 15.

City council (elect 2): Incumbent Jerry Akerson, Jeff Boucher and Cheri Seils. Incumbent Randy Loukota did not file.

Pequot Lakes School Board (elect 3): Incumbent Valarie Wallin, Dena M. Moody, incumbent Brandon Andersen, incumbent Derrek Johnson and Tracy Wallin.

Pine River

Mayor: Incumbent Tamara Hansen.

City council (elect 2): Incumbents Tony Desanto and Patty Melby.

Pine River-Backus School Board (elect 4): Incumbents Leslie Bouchonville, Garny Gaffey and Katy Botz, Wanda Carlson and Ryan Trumble. Incumbent Richie Bean did not file.
